Peer reviews
Peer-2-Peer review continues in France
The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) project did its second peer review in Paris on 7-9 March 2005, following a successful first review in Northern Ireland early December 2004. P2P is an eLearning project which aims to develop a closer dialogue between senior officials working on eLearning policy and implementation in schools.

It is partly funded by the European Commission's DG Education and Culture. The project is based on the concept of professionals reviewing each other's policy and practice. The peer reviews of the project will also involve schools and inspectorates. The first such review will take place in April.

The topic of the French P2P was “Beyond pioneers, how to widen or generalise the use of ICT in education”. European experts and policy makers in charge of ICT development from Belgium, Finland, Northern Ireland, the UK and Switzerland discussed with representatives of the French Ministry of education, the French inspectorate and regional leaders in the French education system, exchanging ideas and experiences of the use of ITC in schools.
The intensive three-day programme organised by the French ministry of education consisted of meetings with officials, inspectors and project leaders so that their peers in Northern Ireland and Finland could learn about and from the French experience with ICT in schools.

Experts from Switzerland, UK and the EUN office provided stimulation and support to the informal yet rigorous discussions. Following the visit, the rapporteur from Switzerland will draft the peer review report which will be made public later in 2005 and the UK and EUN experts will develop analytical studies on the basis of the peer review.

Some 16 schools are taking part in a parallel practice peer review and national inspectorates are working together to review each other's approaches to ICT assessment.

Outputs include peer policy and practice review reports, school portraits, as study on assessment schemes for teachers ICT competence, analytical studies and collections of good practice in policy and practice. Project partners work on four strands: policy, practice, inspection, dissemination.
