Europe has a great variety of teaching practices; each country has their little differences and flavours they wish to pass on to the next generation. Geographical and cultural divisions of North- South- and city-periphery-axis overshadow the seeking for leading teaching trends in Europe. Despite that fact, the teaching itself remains the very same everywhere; teacher interacting with learners.
New technology and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are a challenge for schools. We want it or not, they will enter classrooms and affect classroom practices. Students nowadays carry around a lot more advanced technology than the teacher does; it is a normal part of their leisure time. Will this be considered in schools? Students use this technology as pros, whereas teacher might not be so up to date with technology. Right there is one of the main trends; the roles of teacher and student are shifting, not only in classrooms but also in the community as ICT might allow student to be an active citizen and become a teacher or even an entrepreneur.
What are the effects of ICT use in classrooms on pedagogical practices? An array of actors and conditions now influence teachers, school management and the community around schools. Of course technical infrastructure has its constraint. This article will examine some of the fields and their development in Europe.
